July - Dorset and Wiltshire Field Tournament 2-3 July 2011
Fantastic weather after the many weeks of rain, wind and cloud we could not have booked better shooting conditions, the sun shone throughout the event, and the heat was quite Mediterranean. This combined with the hospitality afforded us by the Landowners Michael and Mary Keene along with their friends and family created a really lovely weekend. Sunday was the first Dorset and Wiltshire Field archery tournament for many years and I was encouraged by the number of “new to field” archers who came and gave it a try, you are all to be commended. The venue had stunning views, the pond area was teaming with an assortment of wildlife with some quite exquisite butterflies and the Alpacas were beautiful, if not slightly bemused at all these strangers in their garden.
Your County Champions are:
Ladies Bare bow – Rebecca Fay – Mere Archers

HELP WANTED!
Do you know of any club members who have enjoyed attending tournaments but
feel they no longer shoot to their own expected high standards or face physical
problems?
There is an alternative to shooting at tournaments.
Become a CANDIDATE JUDGE.
The Candidate will still attend the competitions without the pressures of shooting.
The Candidate will still meet their fellow archers and enjoy the day.
When club members are bemoaning their fate at the end of the day the judge will
be relaxed.
A sense of humour is a help but not compulsory.
A basic knowledge of the rules of shooting will also help!
You can become a Candidate judge and ask to attend tournaments but if you decide
it is not your cup of tea you are not bound to continue. A mentor/tutor will
be appointed to assist you.
If you are interested, please contact Miss Joan Griffiths. Email: joan_griffiths@btinternet.com
Any GWAS archers reading this message and are interested may also contact the
above.
