Peter Heads – Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we share with DWAA members that Peter Heads, the President of
Supermarine Bowmen, sadly died on Monday 11th March.  He was just shy of his 95 th birthday. Peter
joined Vickers Supermarine Bowmen in 1963, his wife Lorna introduced Peter to archery and he was
hooked straightaway.  Peter originally came from Middlesex where he was the Middlesex Champion
in 1961.  Peter was a huge contributor to our club and held many roles within the committee. He
was the first face of Supermarine Bowmen for many, as he ran beginner courses for many. Peter
was also the President of DWAA around 20 years ago. He attended the very first Marston Arrow
which we still hold today at Supermarine Bowmen, some 59 year ago!

This photo was taken in July 2019 aged 90 and shooting with his right hand. Peter was left handed
most of his archery life, but finding himself unable to shoot left handed, rather than give up, he
taught himself to shoot with the opposite hand, so he could carry on shooting.  This demonstrates
what archery meant to Peter.

He will be truly missed by Lorna and his family, and by those at Supermarine Bowmen who knew him
well. RIP Peter.

Peter’s funeral will be held on Friday 5th April 2024, details are on this link if anyone wants to attend. Peter Heads – Hillier Funeral Service
